Open Your Heart, Open Your World:
Understand the Lives of People with Disabilities Through the “Sensory Experience: Surviving Safely, Even Without Light or Sound”
“Sufficiency for Sustainability” is the guiding principle that brings back Southeast Asia's largest sustainability expo, Sustainability Expo 2025 (SX2025). Held from September 26 to October 5, 2025, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, SX2025 serves as a platform to present ideas and solutions that encourage adaptation and collaboration in the face of global crises.
This year's event features a special activity designed to awaken your senses and challenge your perspective: the “Sensory Experience: Surviving Safely, Even Without Light or Sound,” where you will learn to understand “living together equitably.”
Experience a Different World Through 4 Learning Rooms
The Sensory Experience will guide you through a simulated journey of four learning rooms, allowing participants to experience life from the perspective of people with visual and hearing impairments. The objective is to foster an understanding of their limitations and teach effective communication in emergency situations.
1. The Obstacle Room: "When darkness swallows everything, can you find your way?"
Step into a pitch-black room filled with obstacles. You must rely on touch and other senses to navigate a path through tables, chairs, and various objects. This is the first challenge that will give you a glimpse into the reality of life for those with visual impairments.
2. The Choice Room: "When you face a fork in the road, will you choose correctly?"
After emerging from the darkness, you will find yourself at a crossroads with two paths. One leads to safety, while the other is a dead end. This room will test your intuition and decision-making skills in a moment of crisis.
3. The Silent Elevator Foyer: "When silence takes over, can you find the emergency button?"
Enter a world of complete silence, devoid of any auditory cues. You must use only your sense of touch to find and press the emergency buttons, just as those with hearing impairments would.
4. The Safe Zone: "Once you overcome all obstacles, you will learn a crucial lesson."
Reach your final destination, a place full of important knowledge and guidance. Here, you will gain a deeper understanding of the art of proper communication and how to live together as equals.
Share Your Perspective to Drive Change
After completing the Sensory Experience, all participants are invited to share their thoughts and feelings on the Opinion Board. By writing and sharing your sentiments, you can reflect on new perspectives regarding communication, travel, darkness, and silence—the very challenges people with disabilities face every day.
The Sensory Experience is more than just a learning activity; it’s an opportunity to build awareness and practice intelligent adaptation so that we can all live together harmoniously in a diverse society.
The Sensory Experience is offered in 30-minute rounds. You can register in advance or on-site. The rounds are scheduled at: 10:30-11:00, 11:15-11:45, 13:00-13:30, 13:45-14:15, 14:30-15:00, 15:15-15:45, 16:15-16:45, 17:00-17:30, 17:45-18:15, with the final round at 18:30-19:00.
Be a part of creating a better balance for a better world. Discover the smart adaptations you can easily begin and put into action, because true adaptation isn't just about survival—it's about creating a sustainable and balanced way of living for all.
