Actionable Strategies for Achieving Sustainability
Thailand’s current economic development faces numerous challenges—especially in promoting sustainability and inclusive social growth. This underscores the vital importance of supporting organizations dedicated to generating positive social and environmental impacts: Social Enterprises. These organizations do more than seek profit; they aim to create lasting, meaningful change in society.

Pathways to Progress
At the SX Talk Stage, held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center on October 2, 2024, experts in social enterprise development gathered to share strategies for sustainability. Among them were Paramate Phulsuk and Pattararat Tangnisaithong, who emphasized the crucial roles of community support and youth engagement in revitalizing local economies.
Mr. Paramate stressed the importance of financial support for social entrepreneurs, stating,
“We must build confidence in social investment processes and empower entrepreneurs to deliver real, measurable impact.”
Such support is essential for driving long-term development and building trust in the mechanisms that enable social enterprises to thrive. He also highlighted the need to foster understanding of social investment models, so that entrepreneurs feel equipped and confident in their missions.

In parallel, Ms. Pattararat spoke about the Roots Incubation project, which is dedicated to cultivating young talent:
“This program provides knowledge and skills to youth who aspire to return home and improve their communities.”
This initiative serves as a powerful source of inspiration for the next generation, encouraging them to innovate and create sustainable, socially-driven businesses that transform their hometowns.

Experience and Obstacles
While full of hope and opportunity, both speakers acknowledged the significant challenges facing social enterprises—particularly in measuring social impact and gaining investor confidence.
Mr. Paramate noted,
“The concept of social enterprise is still not fully understood, and access to investment remains limited.”
This lack of clarity can cause skepticism about the effectiveness of social ventures. Legal and regulatory hurdles also limit access to essential resources.
Ms. Pattararat added insights from her experience working with youth:
“Helping young people understand the value of returning home and rebuilding communities is key—especially when it comes to shifting local mindsets.”
These cultural and perceptual barriers require ongoing engagement and collaboration. Additionally, evaluating project outcomes is a complex task, as success is not measured only in financial terms but also in mindset shifts and behavioral change among participants.
Fostering Community Collaboration
The growth of social enterprises in Thailand depends heavily on community collaboration. Engaging with local communities allows entrepreneurs to gain a deep understanding of genuine needs, while also cultivating trust and a sense of shared ownership. Community participation lays the groundwork for resilient and inclusive development.
Moreover, providing education and training is critical to strengthening social enterprises. Knowledge in areas such as management, marketing, and finance enables entrepreneurs to run their ventures more efficiently and sustainably.
Empowering the Future of Social Impact
Supporting social enterprises is not only a catalyst for local economic growth, but also a key component in building a more sustainable society. The engagement of young people, combined with strong community backing, forms the backbone of social enterprise development. Cross-sector collaboration among mission-driven organizations will be the driving force behind meaningful, scalable change.
With continued effort and collective commitment, the future of social enterprises in Thailand looks promising. The ultimate goal is to cultivate a better society for future generations—one where innovation, compassion, and sustainability walk hand in hand.
