SX2024 PROLOGUE: An Immersive Wake-Up Call in the Face of Climate Crisis
Hot and Boiling Over — But We and the Planet Must Keep Going
At the entrance to Sustainability Expo 2024 (SX2024), visitors are immediately immersed in a gripping experience that underscores the urgency of our climate reality. The Prologue Zone, one of the event’s major highlights, invites attendees to face the escalating impacts of climate change through a multisensory journey titled "Immersive Experience". Running from September 27 to October 6, 2024, this exhibition takes over the Grand Hall at Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) with storytelling designed to provoke awareness and action.

As global greenhouse gas emissions rise and average temperatures surpass the Earth's natural equilibrium, weather patterns are growing more extreme. Events like El Niño and La Niña have become more frequent and intense, affecting communities across the globe. The Prologue zone brings these phenomena to life through visual and emotional storytelling, highlighting our interconnected vulnerability and collective responsibility.
Upon entering the Grand Hall, visitors are met with a towering digital screen, a landmark installation projecting exclusive environmental documentaries from National Geographic. These rare films set the tone for what follows: a deep dive into the cause-and-effect of climate disruption.
The first zone, REFLECTION OF IMPACT, uses immersive design and mirror structures to evoke the emotional weight of environmental imbalance. Carefully angled mirrors represent the distortion of natural order, illustrating the direct consequences of global warming, including increasingly erratic weather and disrupted seasonal cycles. The sensory environment calls on each viewer to stop, reflect, and recognize the need for urgent action.

The second zone, POINT OF NO RETURN, presents a sobering exploration of how human progress has led us here. From the four phases of the Industrial Revolution to population growth and aggressive development, this section traces the rising curve of emissions and ecological degradation. It confronts visitors with the reality of today's climate emergencies, showing how war, displacement, and migration are increasingly linked to environmental instability.
But the story does not end in despair. The third and final zone, HOPE AND HELP, offers a vision of possibility. Through real-life case studies and artistic storytelling, the zone features people and communities who are taking meaningful action. Among the highlights is an evocative installation titled "Story from Plateau" by Ajarn Boonphol Potisan, inspired by the tragic aftermath of underground bombs in Laos. The piece invites deep emotional engagement with the human cost of conflict and environmental destruction, while also serving as a symbol of resilience.
The Prologue zone at SX2024 is a bold statement — urgent, current, and deeply moving. It reminds us that the future of the Earth is not someone else’s problem. It is a challenge for all of us, and the time to act is now.
