The Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage has been honored with the SX SHAPER AWARD 2024 at the Sustainability Expo (SX) 2024, held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC). Selected by a panel of esteemed judges, the award recognizes the Foundation’s outstanding dedication to integrated development grounded in the Royal Initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother, whose vision was to break the cycle of hardship through a people-centered approach to sustainable development — integrating economic, social, and environmental progress to empower communities towards self-reliance.
Over the past 52 years, the Mae Fah Luang Foundation has delivered transformative impact across numerous communities, offering a model of sustainable development that balances environmental, social, and economic goals. Its flagship initiative, the Doi Tung Development Project, exemplifies how agriculture and cultural tourism can be used to revitalize degraded lands, generate income, and build community resilience. The Foundation also ensures equitable revenue distribution — including from project income and carbon credits — so that local communities take pride in forest conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources.
While issues like deforestation and illicit crop cultivation in the region have been significantly resolved, broader societal challenges such as social inequality, climate change, PM2.5 air pollution, and global warming continue to escalate. In response, the Mae Fah Luang Foundation has expanded its mission to confront these evolving issues, staying true to its founding principles — known as the "Mae Fah Luang Approach."
A Moment of Recognition at SX2024
The SX SHAPER AWARD 2024 was officially presented during the opening ceremony of Sustainability Expo 2024 by Dr. Sumet Tantivejkul, Member and Secretary-General of the Chaipattana Foundation, along with fellow judges. The award was received by Thanpuying Putrie Viravaidya, Chairperson and Chair of the Nomination Committee of the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage.
Thanpuying Putrie expressed her gratitude, stating:
“On behalf of the Mae Fah Luang Foundation, I would like to thank the judging committee for this great honor. We are deeply proud to receive the SX SHAPER AWARD 2024. Today, we must pay tribute to the Princess Mother for her benevolence and visionary work at Doi Tung. Her Royal Initiative aimed to create opportunities and choices for underserved communities — a mission that we continue to uphold through sustainable development in society, the environment, and culture, to create happiness, sustainability, and long-term security.”
