MESSENGERS OF PEACE
Scouts and the Mission of Learning, Creating, and Passing on Peace
In a world facing both social and environmental challenges, the mission of SCOUTS FOR SDGs is to nurture youth as Messengers of Peace. They are not only peacebuilders, but also drivers of sustainability—through action, sharing ideas, and creating social value. At the SX IDEA LAB during the SUSTAINABILITY EXPO 2025, young participants were given space to learn how to “be good” through the Messengers of Peace song, the theme song of the World Scout Movement. The song promotes a culture of peace and mutual understanding among Scouts worldwide, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr. Wanyada Budhtranon, Scouts Subcommittee Member on Diversity & Inclusion of the Asia-Pacific Region, Secretary-General of the ASEAN Scouts Association for Regional Cooperation, Subcommittee Member for International Affairs of the National Scout Executive Board, and Thailand Coordinator of the Messengers of Peace Program, explained:

“This activity inspires every Scout to become a Messenger of Peace, to build unity and foster positive change in their communities and societies. Once the lyrics are understood, they can be applied in real life, showing that peace also means giving and sharing joy with others.”
The program was designed around three main components: Words of Peace, Songs for Peace, and Images of Peace.
Words of Peace – Children listened to the song verse by verse while searching for hidden words on tables. This encouraged concentration, engagement, and teamwork—one of the core values of Scouting.
Songs for Peace – From the five key words in the lyrics—Love, Peace, Tolerance, Respect, and Diversity—each child selected one and used it as inspiration to create artwork in the style of “Doodle Art.” This teaching method, developed by Ambassador Dr. Poldej Worachart, former coordinator of the Messengers of Peace program, involves simply drawing looping lines similar to the letter “e,” moving freely in all directions. The facilitators emphasized that art has no right or wrong—it is a tool to practice courage in expressing imagination, as well as mindfulness and creativity.

Images of Peace – In the final activity, children learned the meaning of the song line by line, along with simple dance movements. This allowed them to better understand the deeper significance behind the lyrics, helping them remember and internalize the message.
In addition to this activity, SX 2025 features a variety of other inspiring Scouts for SDGs activities, such as Dialogue for Peace, Scouts Go Solar, and Ticket for Life Thailand. The SX Kids Zone also hosts engaging booths and activities, giving children and participants more opportunities to learn, explore, and be inspired.
