As our world keeps spinning and time moves relentlessly forward, the impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly severe and deeply intertwined with our everyday lives. The “Better Living” zone at Sustainability Expo 2024 explores one critical question:
"How can we live in ways that ensure a better future for our planet—and how do we make that future possible?"
Facing the Climate Crisis Head-On: Understanding the Urgency
Visitors are first invited to reflect on our planet’s ticking clock through the Climate Clock installation, which presents a real-time countdown to the climate tipping point—the threshold after which recovery becomes drastically more difficult. Alongside it, the Overshoot Day Calculator demonstrates the alarming moment each year when humanity's resource consumption exceeds Earth's capacity to regenerate those resources.
These interactive exhibits spark awareness of the climate emergency and underscore how limited our time is to reverse its trajectory.

From Awareness to Understanding: Global Warming & Climate Change
The Global Warming & Climate Change zone offers context and clarity. It traces the history and causes of global warming, including:
-
Temperature Change: Charting rising global temperatures from past to present
-
Energy Transition: Mapping the evolution of global energy systems and their environmental impact
-
Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Introducing the seven main greenhouse gases and the current global emissions landscape
Action and Impact: How the Climate Crisis Affects Us All
Once we understand the problem, it’s time to act.
The Impact of Climate Change zone reveals how the climate crisis affects every aspect of life—globally and locally. From shifting weather patterns to food insecurity, visitors learn how these impacts are predicted to intensify if nothing is done.
This area also highlights innovations and lifestyle changes that reduce carbon emissions—from sustainable waste management and eco-friendly materials to greener business practices.

The Carbon Journey: From Mega to Me
The Carbon Balloon exhibit visually represents carbon sources, helping visitors trace emissions from:
-
Mega: Industrial and societal carbon emissions
-
Me: Daily-life activities that contribute to personal carbon footprints
This journey leads to a powerful crossroads: “How can we live in ways that help the planet thrive?”
ow-Carbon Living: Transforming Mega and Me
In the final zone of the central exhibition, visitors are encouraged to shift toward a low-carbon lifestyle, with examples from both macro and micro perspectives:
Mega – Global Innovations & Corporate Solutions
Explore global innovations and corporate efforts to decarbonize, including:
-
Carbon Capture Technology: Such as Mammoth, the world’s largest direct air capture plant in Iceland, which can remove up to 36,000 tons of CO₂ annually
-
Carbon Curing: Concrete manufacturing that reuses CO₂ in the production process
Me – Simple Low-Carbon Changes for Everyday Life
From your home to your kitchen, discover practical ideas for reducing your personal carbon footprint, including:
-
Smart Homes & Sustainable Materials: Featuring upcycled building materials like Green Block by Charan Business 52 Co., Ltd. and recycled roofing solutions by Royce Universal
-
Urban Farming & Low-Carbon Foods: Learn about carbon-smart farming, indoor gardening, and food waste composting machines such as those developed by ShooChok, a finalist on Win Win WAR
-
Low-Carbon Ingredients & Menus: Discover ingredients and meals certified with the Carbon Footprint Reduction (CFR) label
The SX Repartment Store collects used items to repurpose or recycle, from batteries, eyeglasses, and old calendars to e-waste, paper bags, lingerie, and more—promoting a culture of reuse and circularity.
A Shared Mission to Keep Going
The Better Living zone isn't just an exhibition—it’s a call to action. Alongside the main exhibits, leading organizations and international partners share knowledge and solutions, urging all of us to ask:
“What can I do—starting today—for a better tomorrow?”
