Smart Waste, Real Change: Simple and Creative Ways to Tackle Trash at SX2024
View all SX News & Movement

The global waste crisis continues to pose a serious threat to our environment, communities, and everyday lives. Despite growing awareness about proper waste management, did you know that in Thailand, only 31% of the 27 million tons of annual waste is effectively recycled or upcycled? That means there’s still a long way to go — and everyone can help.

If you're unsure how to start separating waste or want to explore creative ways to give waste a second life, Sustainability Expo 2024 (SX2024) is the place to be. From 27 September to 6 October 2024, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) will host a wide range of engaging activities, workshops, and exhibitions on waste management — open to all.

Explore "Trash Trail: Trash Tales" by TIPMSE – Better Living Zone, G Floor

At the Better Living Zone (G Floor), discover "Trash Trail: Trash Tales," an interactive exhibition curated by the Thailand Institute of Packaging and Recycling Management for Sustainable Environment (TIPMSE), part of the Federation of Thai Industries.

Follow the full journey of waste management — from choosing eco-friendly packaging to proper post-consumption waste separation — and gain a deeper understanding of how our daily choices impact the planet. Don’t miss Trash Maze Runner, a fun and educational maze game where players guide different types of packaging waste through their proper life cycle paths.

Hands-On Workshops at the Idea Lab – G Floor

Head over to the Idea Lab (G Floor) for practical workshops led by local authorities and experts. Learn how to build your own household wet waste bin that helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Discover the basics of separating organic waste and implementing compost bins in urban settings. Participants will even get to take home a starter kit to implement what they’ve learned.

Turn Trash into Treasure with Creative Minds

  • "When Scrap is Not Crap" by Pattrida Prasanthong, illustrator and artist, teaches how to create one-of-a-kind stickers from scrap paper. This meditative, hands-on workshop lets participants cut, weave, and collage plastic scraps into expressive art.

  • Witchulada Panthanuvong (Ae), featured artist of Bangkok Art Biennale (BAB) 2024, will create powerful artwork from discarded materials.

  • Komkrit Tepthian will host a workshop making imaginative toys from leftover items — including a special “Magic Hand” craft that sparks creativity in children.

Be Inspired at the SX Talk Stage

For those looking for inspiration, don’t miss the talk session “Upcycling Waste: Reviving the Planet Through Creativity,” featuring:

  • Ae – Witchulada Panthanuvong (artist)

  • Kong Green Green (eco-activist)

  • Environman (eco influencer)

  • Sompop Majiswala, co-founder of Recycoex

They’ll share how upcycling can do more than reduce waste — it can transform trash into valuable resources, inspire innovation, and help build a more sustainable society. Their ideas go beyond environmental care, opening the door to new business models in the circular economy, making sustainability a profitable trend in a world where consumers are increasingly eco-conscious.

With creativity, innovation, and a little effort from everyone, turning trash into treasure is not only a way to save the planet — it's a smart step toward future-ready, sustainable businesses.

join us in transforming the way we live and manage waste. Let’s co-create a world where balance, adaptation, and responsible choices lead the way forward.
